This homemade burger sauce is the perfect complement to your favorite burger recipes. Tangy and delicious, but best of all, easy to prepare with a few simple ingredients!
My favorite burger sauces are creamy and tangy. I love acidity in my condiments for juicy burgers because it cuts through the grease and fat and punches your tastebuds with flavor in each bite. This is the best burger sauce recipe I have used since first developing burgers for my gourmet food truck.
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Mayonnaise - Plain Greek yogurt can be substituted if you are counting calories, but mayo is strongly recommended for best flavor.
- Dijon mustard - Stone ground mustard is a great substitute. I do not recommend using yellow mustard.
- A.1. Sauce - Ketchup can be substituted, but it will take the flavor in a different direction.
- Brown sugar - This is an optional ingredient but is great for adding a little sweetness.
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Fresh ground black pepper
How to make it
This homemade burger sauce recipe is extremely easy to make. Simply combine all of the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and whisk together. That's it!
This tangy sauce can be used immediately, but it also stores well in the refrigerator for weeks. The flavor will continue to meld if made in advance, and it should be stored in an airtight container or covered in plastic wrap.
How to use it
This easy burger sauce is a great addition to my restaurant-style homemade burger patties or patty melts. It is my secret sauce on grilled burgers and it makes the best venison burgers.
Use it as a dipping sauce for homemade French fries and onion rings, or paint this hamburger sauce on any of the burger recipes below, I particularly recommend pairing it with my pub burgers.

I am wondering if I don't have that mustard can I use dry ground mustard? I did make it with dry ground mustard and it was good. I than re-read and saw that it was supposed to be made with stone ground mustard not dry mustard. Oops!!! It was good. What would the difference in taste with the other mustard?

The best option would be to substitute Dijon mustard or brown mustard. You can use some dry mustard in a pinch, but I wouldn't use more than 1 teaspoon.

Great sauce and a nice change from standard mayo, mustard & ketchup. It came out a little thin, but it tasted delicious. Even dunked my fries in it. Good job!
