This gourmet burger sauce is the perfect complement for your next homemade burger. Tangy and delicious, but best of all, easy to prepare!

I think I enjoy making new and flavorful sauces for my gourmet burgers as much as I enjoy the burgers themselves. Is a condiment aficionado a thing? If so, that's me! Let's take a look at my classic burger sauce recipe, as well as a few flavorful alternatives, perfect for any creation.

    Burger Sauce

    Burger Sauce

My favorite burger sauces are creamy and tangy. I love acidity in my condiments for burgers because it cuts through the grease and fat and punches your tastebuds with flavor in each bite. This particular recipe I have been using a variation of ever since I developed burgers for a gourmet food truck I once owned.

This sauce right at home on my restaurant-style homemade burger patties, which I recommend you checking out. I also really enjoy it on grilled burgers and even venison burgers. In particular, this would be great on my pub burgers.

    How to Make Burger Sauce

The ingredients for this condiment include a base of mayo blended with stone ground mustard, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worchestershire sauce, and fresh ground black pepper. There is no cooking required, the ingredients are simply mixed together and ready to use.

Tip: If your store doesn't have a good selection of stone ground mustard, (affiliate link) something that says, "Coarse ground" is also good.

    How to Store Burger Sauce

Burger sauce can be prepared and enjoyed in minutes, however, the flavor will be best if allowed to meld overnight in the refrigerator. Store your sauce, like any condiment, in an air-tight container to prevent odors from your refrigerator from flavoring the sauce. As long as your ingredients are fresh, you can expect the sauce to last for weeks.

    How to Customize this Recipe

The mustard and the apple cider vinegar adds a tangy punch to this recipe, but if you don't want such an assertive flavor in your sauce you can eliminate the vinegar completely, or add additional ketchup.

I personally think stone ground mustard is the best choice, but you can use any of your favorite gourmet mustards. Spicy Brown mustard would be my second choice. This recipe would also work really well with a dollop of prepared horseradish added to warm the flavor up.

    More Burger Sauce Ideas

I have no shortage of suggestions for additional sauces to slather on your favorite burger, if you are looking for more ideas. One of my favorites is a sweet and spicy sauce featuring Franks Red Hot Sauce and balsamic vinegar, found in my spicy burgers recipe. Otherwise, check out my insanely popular Big Mac Sauce, which is ideal for any fast-food style burger.

Also, be sure to check out my Peppered Balsamic Burger Sauce which is particularly well suited for burgers topped with blue cheese. Finally, my sweet and sticky bacon jam makes any burger completely out of this world!

Great sauce and a nice change from standard mayo, mustard & ketchup. It came out a little thin, but it tasted delicious. Even dunked my fries in it. Good job!
