Actually, I really enjoy the holidays. First of all, my family is a lot of fun, and secondly, there is always a strong focus on making sure the table is brimming with exceptional dishes! It is a feast I look forward to all year!

Green Bean Casserole is as much a Thanksgiving staple as the turkey. However, this classic side is due for an upgrade. I packed mine full of cheddar cheese and the smoky flavor of bacon, for a creamy difference you’ll really savor!
It tastes good enough to almost make your grandma forget you dropped out of college.
I found all of the ingredients I needed to make this Cheesy Green Bean Casserole with Bacon at Target. Actually, they had the Campbell’s® Cream of Mushroom Soup, Del Monte® Canned Green Beans, and French’s Crispy Onions prominently displayed on an end-cap on the main aisle. How easy is that!?
Just needed to take a few more steps to grab Swanson® Chicken broth, cheese, and bacon and I was all set!
Using Del Monte® Blue Lake® Cut Green Beans makes the recipe quick and easy. You don’t need to trim a million beans, or mess with pre-cooking them. Everyone already has enough prep work to worry about on Thanksgiving! Plus, being made simply with green beans, water and sea salt, you can be proud to serve them to your family.
Campbell’s® Cream of Mushroom Soup has been the quintessential green bean casserole filling for generations, so it only makes sense to continue the tradition with my recipe twist. After all, isn’t that what holiday’s are all about?
Rather than pouring my casserole into a baking dish, like most traditional recipes, I make my entire Cheesy Green Bean Casserole with Bacon in an oven safe skillet. Why? More flavor!
Let me explain.
My recipe calls for cooking bacon. You cook bacon in a skillet, right? The secret to this recipe is using Swanson® Chicken broth to deglaze the burnt on bacon bits from the bottom of the pan after cooking and incorporate it into the casserole sauce!
First of all, Swanson® Chicken broth adds great flavor by itself, but by using it to deglaze the pan it brings all of the flavor from the bacon fond back to life and it infuses the entire casserole with its smoky essence!
Plus you have less dishes to clean. Win win!
Cheesy Green Bean Casserole with Bacon
- 2 (14.5 oz) cans green beans drained
- 1 (10 3/4 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 8 oz bacon, cut into 1" pieces.
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- French-fried onions to cover (approx 1 cup)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In 9" stainless steel skillet, cook bacon pieces until crisp.
- Remove bacon from pan and drain fat from pan.
- Add chicken broth to pan to deglaze burnt on fond, stirring rapidly until all cooked on bacon bits are incorporated into the liquid.
- Cook for ~2 minutes, allowing liquid to reduce in half.
- Add beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, cheese, and bacon to the pan and stir to combine.
- Place skillet in the oven and cook for 20-25 minutes, or until hot and bubbly.
- Top casserole with French Fried Onions during the final 5 minutes of baking.
- Remove from the oven and serve.
