Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix is quick and easy to make, plus you likely already have all of the needed spices in your cupboard! This recipe can be scaled up and stored too!
I don't want to say I am a genius, that would be pompous. So I guess I'll just type it instead. Making a big batch of homemade taco seasoning mix is nothing short of genius. I'm always second guessing whether I have taco seasoning at home, while I am shopping, anyhow. So why not make a big batch of taco seasoning and store it in a jar for whenever you use it?
It also can be thrown together fast enough that you can mix it up every time you make tacos if you prefer.
I set this recipe for 2 lbs of taco meat. Unless you are cooking for two people, I doubt most people cook up 1 pound of taco meat. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think of tacos as a big family dinner. If you want to use my Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix recipe for just one pound, you can either cut the recipe in half or just use what is needed for 1 pound and store the rest.
It is best to use three tablespoons of taco season per pound of ground beef. This will get you the equivalent level of flavor as one packet.
You'll notice my taco seasoning mix includes flour. Quite honestly, masa harina would be a better substitute, but since most people don't have it on hand, I chose to use flour. Masa Harina would impart a mild corn tortilla flavor which would blend nicely. Though, regardless of which you use, the purpose is to serve as a thickener. The flour will help the thickened sauce coat the beef better.
I recommend making a big batch of this Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix and storing the extra in your pantry in an airtight spice jar. Stored properly the spice will last indefinitely.

I make this and keep it in a mason jar in the pantry. People don't realize that the packets you buy in the store have a bunch of garbage it them.
Love these pics! Very creative.

Smart lady! And you are right about the garbage ingredients too. It is a shame because they are completely unnecessary add-ins. Taco seasoning mixes work perfectly without the added garbage.
