A sticky mixture of brown sugar and maple syrup cling to each tender-sliced carrot. These brown sugar glazed carrots will be a sure hit!

Do you want to know the secret to getting kids to eat their vegetables? Coat them with butter and sugar! Ok, yes, I know, that kind of defeats the whole purpose of eating vegetables in the first place, but as a parent, I am not opposed to taking a hollow moral victory where I can find one!

    Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots

    Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots

Brown sugar glazed carrots is a pretty easy side dish to whip up. Sliced carrots are boiled until tender-crisp and then tossed in a melted mixture of butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup. Though I slice the carrots into ½" rounds in this recipe, you can cut them into any size you wish, just adjust the cooking time accordingly.

    Glazed Baby Carrots

There are a lot of modifications you can make to this recipe, such as substituting baby carrots in place of sliced carrots. However, be prepared to adjust the boiling time accordingly. Baby carrots can take a few more minutes to boil.

Other recipe customization ideas include substituting honey, or you can omit either brown sugar or maple syrup to fit your tastes. If you are looking for a slightly less sweet side dish, simply use butter and a few splashes of balsamic vinegar.

    Glazed Carrots in the Oven

Though my recipe calls for boiling carrots (it is quicker and easier), you can make glazed carrots in the oven as well. Oven roasted carrots certainly have more flavor, however, they will take considerably longer to cook. To make glazed carrots in the oven, bake at 350 degrees for roughly 40 minutes, checking occasionally to see if they are tender.

    Holiday Side Dishes

Brown sugar glazed carrots make a fantastic holiday side dish, particularly when paired with roasted sweet potatoes. If you are looking for more holiday side dish ideas check out my fluffy mashed potatoes, homemade mac and cheese, and roasted lemon parmesan green beans.
