My homemade Burger King Whopper copycat recipe replicates the classic flavor of your favorite fast food burger in a few simple steps.
The ingredients are simple and straightforward, but following a few simple tips and tricks transforms an ordinary homemade burger into the recognizable Burger King classic.

Ingredients Needed
- Sesame bun - Any generic sesame seed hamburger bun will work well.
- Ground beef - You need a quarter-pound 80/20 ground hamburger.
- Pickles - You need 3-4 dill pickle hamburger slices.
- Onion - 2-3 slices of white onion.
- Lettuce - Chopped iceberg lettuce.
- Tomatoes - 1 or 2 tomato slices.
- Mayonnaise
- Ketchup

How to make it
Step one: To replicate Burger King's hamburger patties, measure out ¼ pound of 80/20 ground beef and firmly press it as flat as you can reasonably make it. The thin patty should be wider than your burger bun (as it will shrink as it cooks). Season it with salt and black pepper on both sides.
Step two: The burgers are broiled over an open flame. The best way to replicate their flame-grilled beef patty at home is to grill the burgers on a propane grill. Cook until both sides are nicely seared and the patty is no longer pink. You can use a charcoal grill, but it changes the flavor of the burger in a significant way.
Step three: Lightly toast the insides of the sesame seed bun. This can be done on the grill as the burgers cook, or you can use a toaster or in a hot skillet on the stovetop. This is an important step, as it changes the texture of the burger noticeably.
Step four: Assemble your homemade Whopper in this exact order: Place the cooked patty on the lower bun. Top with 3-4 dill pickle slices, add ketchup, then onions, tomato, and lettuce. Generously smear mayo under the upper bun and place it on the burger.
Your copycat Whopper is ready to be enjoyed! However, as a bonus extra step, you can wrap it in parchment paper or aluminum foil for a few minutes before eating. This warms and softens the texture of the bun, similar to being served a Whopper in a fast food wrapper.
