This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Rémy Martin for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart, or perhaps my tongue, for cognac. It wet my glass while I wrote my maiden post on this website, and it is a frequent guest of honor whenever I mix cocktails. After all, there is no better accompaniment to Wisconsin’s greatest cocktail, the Old Fashioned, than cognac! Recently I set out to learn more about one of my favorite Cognacs, Rémy Martin®, and the rich almost 300 year history.

I am a bit of a history aficionado; actually I went so far as to minor in it in college.  Pro tip: Don’t major or minor in History. The advantage of getting a History degree is that you will get to lounge around all day watching the History Channel; the drawback is you get to do so because you likely will be unemployed. Your best strategy is to develop an interest in food, start a food blog, and proceed to play with interactive videos that allow you to explore the rich history of your favorite spirits. Where was my guidance counselor on that one?

Rémy Martin could have produced an hour-long documentary, and I would have eaten it up! I can never watch enough documentaries. Though as my wife is always quick to remind me, most normal people only enjoyed watching documentaries when their High School teacher called an audible on the lesson plan and wheeled in a television for the class period in lieu of another lecture. A documentary likely wouldn’t have yielded much excitement beyond geeky food bloggers.

Instead, Rémy Martin recently launched a rather sophisticated One Night/Live Them interactive experience that engages viewers to participate in the video and unlock interesting details about the brand's history and the process that gives birth to their masterfully crafted cognac. It perfectly portrays their passion for their craft, and the best part is that you are given a chance to win a prize from the quite refined Collection once you successfully complete the experience. However, you’ll have to navigate through the experience yourself if you want to know what bounty The Collection holds. Can you keep from spilling your drink as you traverse through the party? It took me a couple tries.

    One Night Live Them

The “One Night/Live Them” experience really exemplified what I love about a precision crafted liquor, its refined taste is the result of a perfect blend of science and art. When I first started drinking cognac I would frequently reach for inexpensive bottles, since I felt the finer nuances would be lost on my tongue. With a quick pour over ice to tame the bite, I’d sip leisurely away. However, it didn’t take me long to figure out I really enjoyed the flavor notes hidden behind the burn and moving up the line to a VSOP or an authentic XO cognac would only amplify what I already loved. Soon enough, the ice was replaced with a confident two-finger splash, and I could lean back with a deeper appreciation of the craftsmanship poured into each glass.

I enjoy a perfectly blended cocktail as much as anyone, but as I’ve previously written about, there is no better way to enjoy the depth of flavor found in quality spirits than confidently ordering your libation ‘neat’. I hope you’ll try your hand at the One Night/Live Them experience and learn what makes Rémy Martin truly exceptional. Perhaps, next time you are feeling a little adventurous you’ll reach for 1738® as well. After all, you only have one life to live, live them.

    Cheers.
