    This easy meatball casserole recipe only requires four simple ingredients - meatballs, noodles, pasta sauce, and cheese!

    Keep this simple recipe on hand for whenever you need an effortless meal on busy weeknights. This comforting dish will be a surefire hit with the whole family.

    Ingredients & Substitutions

    • Penne pasta - Any short pasta will work fine.
    • Italian Meatballs - This recipe works well with frozen meatballs from the grocery store or making your own juicy homemade meatballs.
    • Pasta sauce - Marinara sauce is a good substitute.
    • Shredded Mozzarella cheese - Adding Parmesan cheese is also a great addition.

    How to make it

    To make this meatball casserole recipe, you will want to first fully cook the meatballs and warm the pasta sauce. Boil the pasta according to the package instructions, but leave it a little firm by removing it from the water 1-2 minutes before it reaches al dente.

    Add the cooked noodles, meatballs, and pasta sauce to a casserole dish. Give it a good stir and top generously with shredded cheese. Place the meatball casserole in a preheated 425-degree oven for 10-15 minutes.

    Once the cheese has melted, remove it and let it cool slightly, then serve with garlic bread.

    Storing & Reheating Leftovers

    Meatball casserole is best enjoyed fresh out of the oven, but it will store for up to one week in the refrigerator when kept in an airtight container. I recommend reheating leftovers in individual servings in the microwave until warmed through.

    • Medium Casserole Dish
    • Large pot

    Ingredients

    • 12 ounces penne pasta
    • 1 pound meatballs (fully cooked and warm)
    • 24 ounces pasta sauce (warmed)
    • 1 ½ cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

    Instructions

    • Place the uncooked pasta in a large pot of boiling water, and cook until almost al dente. Then drain and remove the pasta from the water.
    • Place the noodles, cooked meatballs, and pasta sauce in a medium casserole dish and stir to combine. Then top with shredded cheese.
    • Place casserole in a 425 degree oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and is beginning to brown.
    • Remove the casserole from the oven, let cool briefly, then serve.
