This Easy Margherita Pizza uses tender and chewy naan bread to create a pizza that tastes so refined, you would never believe it was this easy to make! Topped with fresh mozzarella, vine ripened tomatos, olive oil and basil, you will be making this upscale pizza again and again!
As the story goes, the Margherita pizza was actually created and named for Queen Margherita during a late nineteenth century visit to Naples. The three main ingredients were said to represent the colors of the Italian flag. Mozzarella for white, basil for green, and tomatoes for red. There are other versions of the origins to this pizza, but this rendition is the most popular. As, myself, an astute judge of history, I say let’s just go with this version because I like it the best!
It is also important to note, it is a Margherita pizza, not a Margarita pizza… that would be the official pizza of Mexico, or something like that.
Making homemade pizza can be a challenging and time consuming endeavor, that is why I like this recipe so much. My easy Margherita pizza is my go-to recipe when I am craving upscale pizza taste on a Fox Valley Foodie budget. The recipe is quick and easy to assemble, fast to bake, and the ingredient list is only five items long! How can you go wrong?
The secret? Naan bread! What better way to replicate a classic Italian masterpiece than with this Indian staple? Ok, maybe it sounds a little crazy, but store bought naan flatbread makes an AMAZING pre-made pizza crust. It is soft and chewy on the inside, and bakes up to have a satisfying crispness to its exterior. Sounds like the perfect pizza dough to me!
You will see great results cooking this on a baking sheet, but I really like the extra crispness I get when it’s baked on a screaming hot pizza stone. It certainly isn’t required for the recipe but it does add a great texture to the crust!

Delish---i used refrigerated basil from a jar and it was a perfect addition. I will be making this one again not only for dinner with soup or salad but a perfect party appetizer.
