Enticingly sweet, smoky, and sticky, homemade bacon onion jam recipe will transform bread or crackers into an instant appetizer, or slather it onto a bun to take your burger to the next level!
Cut raw bacon into one-inch pieces and cook in a skillet set over medium-high heat until crispy. Remove the crispy bacon with a slotted spoon and reserve one tablespoon of rendered bacon fat in the skillet.
Heat bacon fat over medium heat and saute onions until translucent.
Add chopped bacon, vinegar, and apricot preserves and simmer until preserves have dissolved, stirring as needed.
Transfer jam into a tall, cylindrical container and use an immersion blender to blend into a jam-like consistency.
To serve, spread this savory jam on toasted bread, crackers, burgers, or sandwiches.
Notes
This can be made in advance and stored in a pint jar in the refrigerator for future use as well. Reheat in the microwave until warmed through.
