Ingredients

  • 4 slices sourdough bread (thick sliced)
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons Butter

Serving

  • Maple syrup

Instructions

  • Let your sourdough slices stale by setting them on the counter overnight, or very lightly toasting them to dry them out.
  • Prepare your French toast batter by adding eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined.
  • Heat your griddle to 350 degrees, or set a large skillet over medium heat, and grease the surface with butter.
  • Dredge each bread slice in the batter, ensuring it is fully coated, then set it on the griddle to cook until it turns golden brown, approximately 2-3 minutes. Flip and repeat with the remaining side.
  • Serve the warm French toast with maple syrup.

Notes

Additional serving options for French toast includes butter, powdered sugar, and fresh berries.
Cooked French toast can be kept warm by placing it on a baking sheet and setting it in a 200-degree oven until ready to serve.
