Prep Time10 minutes
Total Time10 minutes
Course: Drink
Cuisine: Mexican
Servings: 3 /4 gallon

Ingredients

  • 1 whole seedless watermelon (should yeild ~9 cups of juice)
  • 3 cups all natural grapefruit juice (or as needed to maintain 3:1 ratio)
  • Handful of mint

Instructions

  • Chop the watermelon and add the red flesh to blender and puree.
  • Pour the pureed watermelon into a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl to remove the pulp.
  • Skim off any foam floating on top of the watermelon juice.
  • Measure the amount of watermelon liquid and pour it into a pitcher with grapefruit juice, maintaining a ratio of 3 cups watermelon juice per 1 cup grapefruit juice.
  • Add a handful of mint to the pitcher and set in the refrigerator to chill for at least 20 minutes.
  • Serve when cold, stirring before pouring.

Notes

Every watermelon will yield a different amount of juice, depending on size. Keep the ratio of watermelon to grapefruit juice at 3:1.
The Watermelon Grapefruit Agua Fresca needs to chill in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes to allow the mint flavor to permeate the juice.
You can make your own freshly squeezed grapefruit juice for this recipe, rather than purchasing juice. However, in many areas of the country (mine included) this can be cost prohibitive.
