Equipment

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Baby Bella Mushrooms (sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • ½ cup dry Red Wine
  • 1 cup Low Sodium Beef Broth
  • 1 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 sprig fresh Thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh ground Black Pepper

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a saute pan set over medium heat then add mushrooms and saute until tender. Add garlic and cook 2 additional minutes.
  • Deglaze the pan with red wine, scraping any browned bits on the bottom of the pan into the liquid.
  • Place flour in a dish and beef broth a little at a time, whisking to combine as you go, until the flour is blended with the beef broth.*
  • Add beef broth mixture to the pan along with thyme sprig and fresh ground pepper. Simmer sauce until it thickens,** stirring occasionally. Taste for salt and adjust as needed. Serve on top of your favorite steak.

Notes

This recipe works well for topping two steaks, but can easily be doubled if needed for larger meals.

*If too much beef broth is added at once your flour will clump up, creating floury lumps in your mushroom sauce.

**If the sauce is too thin, just cook it longer. It will thicken as the liquid evaporates. If the sauce is too thick, dribble a little water in it to thin it out.
