Well, the baking season is upon us, but sadly there you stand in your kitchen leering at a disassembled KitchenAid mixer in wide-eyed wonder as though it came from outer space and aren’t yet sure of its intentions. You’re college educated, write Excel formulas in your sleep, and can rock a killer pantsuit, but your only baking skill is making rock hard cupcakes that can stay petrified for eons. But do not fret, head under the polka dots because Tamara the Cake Guru has you covered!
Upon walking in the bright pink shop, you are greeted with a large display of freshly baked cupcakes dancing under the lights, all calling your name! I honestly don’t ever remember having a cupcake so decadent. Tamara’s cupcakes will make you resent any treats your friends brought to school for their birthday in third grade! She calls them Fabu-Lux Cupcakes, I call them sinful. If you think you will simply be choosing from chocolate or vanilla, think again. There are dozens and dozens of unique flavors she frequently rotates.
One of my favorites is the Peanut Butter Cup. Every bite is full of rich chocolaty flavors, sweet and creamy peanut butter, and of course it is adorned with a peanut butter cup on top! My first thought upon picking up the cupcake was its noticeable heft. Don’t confuse this with being a dense cupcake, they are anything but. However, these are not petite, diet friendly morsels.
The cake itself is remarkably buttery and moist, with a pleasingly light texture. Yes, I know, no one likes the word “moist”. So let’s say instead, “The cake is remarkably capable of leaving one’s mouth adequately saturated.” Does that sound better? It just rolls of the tongue, doesn’t it!
Every nook and cranny of this scrumptious cake has been well thought out. A mountain of sweet and sugary peanut butter icing not only generously adorns the top of the cupcake, but creamy chocolate silk lies in wait inside the center of the cupcake as well! This ensures pretty much every bite can include both cake and frosting! Then to top it all off, everything is drizzled with additional chocolate and peanut butter!
These are not grandma’s cupcakes; these are cupcakes for serious cupcake eaters!
You can find more than just cupcakes at Cake Guru, Tamara bakes up wedding cakes, special occasion cakes, cheesecakes, cookies and more! Initially opening her first shop in Oshkosh, it is easy to see how her popularity helped her to expand to Appleton as well. If you have a special occasion, want to take a shortcut on your holiday baking, or just a sweet tooth, I highly recommend heading under the polka dots!
You can check her out at http://CakeGuru.com, or head to the shop at 1529 Oregon Street in Oshkosh or 1859 N. Casaloma Drive in Appleton. Tell them the Fox Valley Foodie recommended you!
