My wife and I are obsessed with road trips. We are constantly taking day trips to explore our local area, as well as longer reaching weekend getaways. Last month I was thrilled to take a road trip out to Wyoming to go antelope hunting. Though I am mildly obsessed with hunting, I think I was looking forward to the road trip even more!
I broke the trip into two legs spending a night in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Leaving in the mid-afternoon, Sioux Falls was easily reachable from my perch in Wisconsin making not only a great resting point for my journey out west but also perfectly accessible for a weekend family adventure too!

Its affordability is one of the reasons that led me to choose it as my resting place on my journey out west, and this same affordability makes me excited to return with my family for some relaxation and fun. Sioux Falls is really a hidden gem in our own backyard that has a lot to offer foodies.

From locally sourced wines to an array of made-from-scratch menu offerings, Sioux Falls has a vibrant foodie scene that is ripe for exploration! And most importantly, having your dollar stretch further means you can explore more cuisine! Plus, once your stomach rumblings have been subdued, there is no shortage of outdoor activities, entertainment, or nightlife to draw your interest too!
Most excitingly of all, the Sioux Falls Visitor Bureau is giving away three-weekend getaways for free! To get more details, and to enter to win, check it out here!

You asked if we had ever been to Sioux Falls and to share what we liked about it so I will share my thoughts! I grew up 90 miles south of Sioux Falls, just outside of Sioux City, IA. Sioux Falls was a quick trip north for me. At the time, I was a mid to late teen, and the greatest draw was the new (to us) and friendly females in Sioux Falls. The fast food establishments at the time (I'm 73) were pretty much the same as at home. DQ, A&W, McDonalds, Tastee-in-and Out and a few more local or regional establishments that probably no longer exist. The town, at that time, was more "Wild West" than Sioux City so that fit our life style.
Much more recently I have flown into Sioux Falls as a closest airport to N. Sioux City, SD where my brother and one of my sisters have homes and have found that the town hasn't changed all that much during the brief time I spent there.
A final comment that is totally off subject: I was attracted to your site and blog by a Sauerkraut and Pork recipe you posted and by the fact that I lived in the Fox Valley (Oshkosh) from 1973 to 1977.

Another great adventure....love reading your e-news and recipes. Interestingly enough, there is a Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, Canada, and my mother spent some childhood years there.
